Thermacraft Energy Services - About Us

Thermacraft owners Beach Barrett and Michael PopeWe have been designing and installing solar energy and radiant floor systems in WNC since 1988 and have installed hundreds of systems. In our radiant floor systems we use Wirsbo tubing and components as well as components from Caleffi, Taco, Grundfos and Watts Radiant to name a few. For heating plants we have installed many different units over the years. Currently we typically use boilers from Heat Transfer Products such as the Munchkin and Phoenix as well as the Lochinvar Knight. We also use Rinnai tankless water heaters on small projects and additions. We generally use controls manufactured by Tekmar, Taco and Honeywell.

Previous to entering the radiant floor heating business, we constructed and plumbed several solar and conventional homes in the Brevard, NC area as well as the North Carolina Outward Bound base camp in Pisgah National Forest. This experience gives us insight into the problems and concerns that our customers, be they contractors or homeowners, may encounter. We have kept up with the latest developments in radiant technology as members of the Radiant Panel Association, the nations largest and oldest association devoted to radiant technology. We are also graduates of the Wirsbo Home Comfort Team School, held at the Wirsbo headquarters. Wisbo is among the oldest and is the largest manufacturer of pex tubing in the world. As a result of our Home Comfort Team status, our piping installations are guaranteed for 30 years instead of the standard 25 years.

The founder of Thermacraft, Beach Barrett, started his solar career at the Mother Earth News Magazine Eco-Village research center where he taught and researched solar energy, solar design, alternative construction methods and alternative energy production. These skills and passion led him to Progressive Energy Works where he was a solar and sun space technician, and eventually to start Thermacraft in 1988.

In 2007 Thermacraft expanded with the addition of new owner Michael Pope and officially changed its name to Thermacraft Energy Services. Michael began his renewable energy career in 1998 in Colorado living in an off- grid cabin at 10,000 ft elevation with amazing views of the continental divide. With this new interest in renewable energy, Michael soon found himself working with renewable energy pioneers Jade Mountain in Boulder. In 2001 Michael moved to WNC and continued working in the renewable energy field and began installing radiant heating systems as well as solar energy systems. Today Thermacraft operates out of a centrally located office/warehouse in North Asheville and continues to provide awareness, education, and quality installations in Western North Carolina.
